VIMY TREK 2017
On 9 April 1917, four divisions of the Canadian Corps, fighting together for the first time, attacked and succeeding where all others had failed captured Vimy Ridge. This stunning victory sealed Canada’s reputation as a force to be reckoned with and become the symbol of the birth of Canada as an independent nation.
In recognition of the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, many organizations and people across the world are planning commemorative trips to the Vimy area of France in 2017. The significance of this centennial year is recognized at the highest levels of the Canadian Government and the Canadian Armed Forces.
To commemorate the contribution and sacrifice made by these brave Canadians, the Army Cadet League of Canada (Manitoba) is actively planning for this centennial event today by partnering with all of the Manitoba Army Corps to host 100 Manitoba cadets on a tour of Europe to mark the 100th Anniversary of this event.
As a corps the 407 Royal Canadian Army Cadets are planning to send 10 cadets and 2 staff. To achieve this goal it will require an extensive parent/cadet commitment by those in the corps who wish to attend and who meet the selection criteria. As such it is extremely important that as an organization we manage the expectations of the cadets/parents as we will only be able to accommodate a limited number of attendees. More details on the selection process are listed below.
